Places you will see on these trips:-

Chandragiri Cable Car/ Bhaleshwor Mahadev – This new cable car is situated on the fringes of the Kathmandu Valley. The cable car is 2.5km long and climbs up over 1000 meters. The cable car was built to access the Bhaleshwor Mahadev (Temple). While the temple itself is new, the original shrine has a story of its own dating back to the 17th century. At a fire ritual for the father of Satidevi, Lord Shiva’s Consort. Daksha was said to have insulted Lord Shiva, Satidevi’s husband in front of many Gods and Goddesses, to the point where Satidevi threw herself into the Ritual fire and died. Lord Shiva devastated to see his beloved wife’s body in the fire. Lord Shiva unable to console his grief over the loss of his consort and marched around the world with her body for a long time, paying no heed to the decomposing state of the body. As he marched parts of Satidevi’s body fell off, in all these places temples were erected. Bhaleshwor Mahadev is the place where Satidevi’s forehead fell to the group, hence the construction of the shrine here. Much like Manakamana, Hindus come to this temple to have their wishes fulfilled and to aid their passage  in to Lord Shiva’s after life.

Manankamana – Manakamana (A Hindu Goddess) is one of the most famous temples and pilgrimage sites in Nepal for Hindus. It is situated about 100km (3 hours drive) from Kathmandu. The temples name translate to Heart (Mana) and wish (Kamana) and it is said that all Hindus should visit this place at least once in a lifetime to have their wishes granted. The legend of Manakamana Goddess dates back to the reign of the Gorkha king Ram Shah during the 17th century. It is said that his queen possessed divine powers, which only her devotee Lakhan Thapa knew about. One day, the king witnessed his queen in Goddess incarnation, and Lakhan Thapa in the form of a lion.Upon mentioning the revelation to his queen, a mysterious death befell the king. As per the custom of that time, the queen committed Sati (ritual immolation) on her husband’s funeral pyre. Before her sati the queen had assured Lakhan Thapa that she would reappear in the near future. Six months later, a farmer while ploughing his fields cleaved a stone. From the stone he saw a stream of blood and milk flow. When Lakhan heard an account of this event, he immediately started performing Hindu tantric rituals at the site where the stone had been discovered thus ceasing the flow of blood and milk. The site became the foundation of the present shrine. According to tradition, the priest at the temple must be a descendent of Lakhan Thapa
