The airport in Phaplu is the main entryway to the region. Flying is the fastest way to get there, otherwise you are looking at a 9 to 12 hour drive from Kathmandu. The airport is nestled between the rolling hills and overshadowed by snow capped peaks. The bonus about this airport, it that it is one of the few black topped rural runways in Nepal, mostly remote airstrips are dirt!

The rosy cheeked faces of the children are a welcoming feature in the area. Kids will always be curious to see tourists, especially on bikes. Shy at first, give them some time and you will soon be greeted with smiles and yells of “Namaste” the local greeting,. (It means I salute the God in You).
Here is the inside of a well kept kitchen in the Khumbu Region. Thermos for the never ending supply of black and butter tea, noodles, biscuits, flour and jars of spices. The fires are fueled by wood painstakingly collect from the forest. Tea is constantly on the boil and here a pot of Thukpa, a locally made thick noodle soup boils away on the stove.
There is limited lodgings at the Pikey Peak Base Camp, but the elderly couple that live there will make you more than welcome, fill your bellies with hot noodle soup (Thukpa) and provide clean, yet simple rooms.
