Cycling Fitness for Mountain Biking with Himalayan Single Track

Tips for Staying Fit During the Lockdown

Are you missing your bike and worried that you will lose some fitness? Here are some tips to help you stay healthy and also help with your MTB Skills while you are stuck at home and hopefully keep you from the boredom.

Stairs – We all have them. Use them. Run up and down them 10 to 15 times a day. Each Day you can see if you can go longer/further up and down the stairs. You can also challenge your friends to a  virtual stair climbing challenge, who can do the most stairs in a day!

Yoga – Download a Yoga App, there are some really great ones out there. Yoga is really good for you flexibility which can in turn help you to become a better rider!

Running – If you do get out to do the shopping, jog to the shop and back instead of walking or taking your motorbike. If it’s not far you can even sprint to get your heart rate going.

Skipping – This is a great way to get your heart rate going and help improve your stamina, and all your need is a Jump Rope!

Workouts – Check out The Pump, they are doing online workouts which you can join! View the Link

If you have a roof top, take your bike upstairs and you can practice track stands and your body position when turning. These are very good skills to have. Here is a great tutorial on how to track stand thanks to Global Mountain Bike Network –  View Video Link

Spinning – In your compound or on your roof top, make a figure of eight and then set your gears to the highest setting (Loose) this means you have to pedal very fast but don’t move forward very fast. You can do this at high intensity( So you are breathing hard)  for 4 x 2 min intervals.

It’s most important to set yourself a routine, try not to spend the entire day on the couch, glued to you phone or gaming. You should set up your day with three short workout sessions to break the day up.
