High altitude, big descents, raw trails — the Mustang Enduro experience packed into four days

Lubra Valley

One of the best short mountain bike trips in the Himalaya for riders chasing hard-hitting, high-altitude Enduro. This adventure begins and ends in Pokhara, with a quick flight dropping us straight into Jomsom - the heart of Mustang - and from there, the singletrack fun begins.

The riding here is wild and raw: loose sand, rocky ridgelines, technical switchbacks, exposed stone staircases, and forest flow. The trails of the Lubra Valley are the stuff of legend - big descents, big views, and a test of every ounce of your riding skill and fitness.

This trip is fully jeep-supported, but nothing’s on a silver platter - there’s still some honest pedaling and pushing at altitude. Our experienced drivers and guides know the region inside out, making sure you’re safe, stoked, and always pointed towards the best lines.

These trails are remote, natural, and at altitude. You’ll need solid rider fitness and confidence on blue-graded trails and above. Exposure is real, the switchbacks are tight, and the rewards are huge. Listen to your guide, ride smart, and you’ll have the time of your life.

  • Fly straight into the Himalaya on a scenic 22-minute flight from Pokhara to Jomsom
  • Ride the Legendary Lubra Valley, nearly 2,000m of continuous singletrack descent
  • Experience true high-altitude enduro with shuttles up to 4,350m and descents dropping all the way to 860m.
  • Overnight in authentic Mustang teahouses at Kagbeni, Khinga, and Marpha for a real taste of local life.

Itinerary

Day 01Fly Pokhara (822m) to Jomsom (2,743m), Ride to Kagbeni (2,804m)
Wake early for mountain views over Pokhara before a short, breathtaking 22-minute flight into Jomsom. From the plane you’ll see Dhaulagiri and Annapurna so close it feels like you could touch the peaks. After breakfast in Jomsom, we meet our support driver and shuttle up towards Phylak (~3,100m). This first day is all about getting the legs turning and lungs open. We keep the pace easy to acclimatize, with a mellow trail ride down into Kagbeni (2,804m). This charming Mustang village will be our base for the next two nights.
Day 02Legendary Lubra Valley Enduro (Kagbeni 2,804m – Lubra 2,950m)
This is the day most riders dream of. We shuttle high above Kagbeni and drop into the legendary Lubra Valley Trail — a massive descent of nearly 2,000m into the vast Kali Gandaki River basin. Expect fast flow, steep switchbacks, wide-open views, and enough loose rock and sand to keep you sharp. We’ll run two laps of the ridgeline trails, soaking in both the high-altitude buzz and the mind-blowing scenery. Each run is raw, natural Enduro at its finest. We finish the day in Khinga, where a quiet teahouse offers a warm welcome and a well-earned meal.
Day 03Muktinath (3,800m) – Lubra Valley (4,350m) – Jomsom Tower – Marpha (2,670m)

Day 04Muktinath (3,800m) – Lubra Valley (4,350m) – Jomsom Tower – Marpha (2,670m)
After breakfast, we shuttle to Muktinath and push up towards Gangapurna Ridge (~4,350m). It’s a grunt, but the payoff is unreal — 7km of pure singletrack dropping into Lubra Village. From here, we link jeep tracks and cliff-edge trails via Dhumba Lake and Tinigoan before tackling the iconic Jomsom Tower Trail. The day ends with a pedal along the river into Marpha, Mustang’s apple-orchard capital. The riding is exposed and technical in places, but the grins are guaranteed.

Seasonal Guide

Best Time to Ride

Lower Mustang is partly located in the rain shadow, which means the upper sections are generally good for riding for much of the year, with reliable trail conditions. The later in the season you come, the colder it gets, especially at higher elevations. During the monsoon, the lower sections can be more affected by rain, mud, and landslides, so conditions may be less predictable.
