If you are a hardcore Enduro rider looking for a total Himalayan experience, then look no further than this Nepal Extreme Enduro tour.

Overview

For the purest mountain biker, this Mustang Ultimate Enduro tour is a one of a kind adventure that you will never forget. Our experienced team of guides have put together the best high altitude trails on offer in the popular Mustang Valley into one exciting enduro mountain bike tour that is not only a journey about trails, it embraces the expansive landscapes and the unique culture of Nepal.

Not only are the trails epic, along the way you will also discover the rich, vibrant and diverse culture of the Himalayas, stay in the best local teahouses, enjoy authentic food and meet genuine local people who will take you into their hearts! Nepal is like no other country in the world when it comes to these things!

This ride is for intermediate to advanced riders with good fitness. You will be riding from 2800m up to 4300m in altitude and to reach some of the trail heads, there is some pushing/carrying of bikes involved. The challenge is all part of the journey and the descents that follow are going to be unforgettable.

There is no bike park riding, there are no perfectly manicured trails here and this is all part of the unique adventure of enduro mountain biking in Nepal. The trails are all raw and natural, varying from loose sand and rocks to fast flowing forest sections, technical steep stone steps and switchbacks. This trip will test every part of your riding skill as well as good measure of your fitness. Trails include the various lines of the famous Lubra Valley Trail, Gia La Pass and the gnarly exposed switchbacks of the Kalopani riverside trail!

This trip is fully jeep supported. Our experienced drivers are an essential part of our team and will get you as close to the top of the trails as possible and getting there is also part of the adventure! During the trip they will also be the custodians of your bikes, making sure they get safely to where they need to be.

If you are a hardcore Enduro rider looking for a total Himalayan experience, then look no further than this tour.

Your Guide: – Your trail expert for this trip will be one of our guides who specialize in this area, Santosh Rai, Rajan Bhandari (Razza), Mane Tamang or Awatar Rai (Piro Rider).

Itinerary

Upon your arrival in Nepal, a member of our team will meet you at the Airport and transfer you to the Hotel. We have a meet and greet with the Guide for a trip briefing and gear check. We also treat you to a welcome dinner of Nepal’s Traditional dish Dal Bhart (Rice, Lentil Soup and lots of tasty side dishes).

Dinner

Today we get up early and do  every local mountain biker’s weekly ritual, ride the fabled Heli Pad Trail. This is a short, sweet technical ridge line ride and lots of fun. We end up in Bouldanath Stupa. Here we get the chance to experience the rich buddhist culture surrounding this monument. We soak up the tranquil environment and enjoy lunch on one of the many roof tops. The jeep will leave us and transfer the bikes to Pokhara. We take some time for sightseeing and also enjoy a visit to Pashuptinath Temple, one of the holiest Hindu Centers in Nepal and the place where most Hindus will go to be cremated. We return to the hotel and have a nice afternoon preparing for the trip ahead.

6 hours
Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

After Breakfast we leave the hotel and drive to the airport, where we catch a 25 min flight to Pokhara. Pokhara is a chilled out lakeside town at the base of the Annapurna Himalaya. If time is sufficient, we ride to the Peace Pagoda, another short warm up ride. The ride starts at the famous World Peace Stupa from where there is a  nice single track descent through the jungle to the Lake. It can get a bit wild and slippery in some places making it super fun. We reach  lakeside by lunchtime and check into the hotel. The drivers will pack up the bikes and heavier gear and head off to Jomsom. You will enjoy a relaxing afternoon in lakeside.

3 hours
Breakfast, Lunch

Wake up for sunrise and hopefully catch a glimpse of the mountains before we head to the airport. It’s about a 22 min flight to Jomsom, above the Pokhara valley and deep into the heart of the Himalaya, take a peek out of the window for fantastic views of Dhaulagiri and beyond. The flight is simply breathtaking as the plane’s wing tips  almost touch the snow capped peaks before landing on the tiny airstrip at Jomsom. We take some time for breakfast and getting the bikes ready for the journey. We drive up towards the isolated village of Phylak and head to the trail above the village (around 3100m). Today it’s important to ride slowly and take the time to acclimatize to the altitude. Our final destination is the lovely village of Kagbeni, where we will spend the night. Kagbeni will be our base for the next few nights..

4 hours
Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Today we shuttle up towards Lubra Valley. We spent the day hitting the various lines of this famous trail. You will love the fast flow and the feeling of the high altitude of this epic trail. Make sure you take time to enjoy the views.

6 hours
Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

A 1 hour  drive above Muktinath takes us up to 4690 m, well above Gyu La (Pass) which is the gateway to the mystical Upper Mustang Region, this place the locals call Thamserku Hill. We have porter assistance to carry the bikes and the tea (An essential part of life in the high mountains). The views from up here are stunning all the way along the mountains including Nilgiri, Dhawlagiri, Annapurna and into Upper Mustang. The ride down is epic, rugged and a little sloping to start with, then fast and flowing with some epic switchbacks, loose rocks and sand. The trail ends in Jhong (3600m) for lunch. There is a small fort and Monastery here we can explore. We stay tonight in Muktinath and also get the chance to visit the monastery and explore the Buddhist and Hindu culture of this unique temple.

7 hours
Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Leaving early in the morning we hike up to the Teahouse at Phedi about 300 vertical meters above Muktinath, again assisted by porters. You can hire ponies if needed. This is part of the trail that goes to Throng La, one of the most famous high mountain passes in the Himalayas. After some tea we head downhill from 4200m to 2860m all the way to Kagbeni via the middle trail, an ancient village on the trade route between Tibet and Nepal. Have lunch here at the famous Yak Donalds, before shuttling back to our accommodation at Muktinath.

6 hours
Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

After breakfast we head again towards Lubra, this time taking a slightly higher trail towards Gangapurna and swinging around onto the next ridge. It takes about 1.5 hours of steady riding and some pushing. From here it can feel like we are truly in the lap of the mountains. Our descent is around 7 km of single track all the way to Lubra Village. After this we have a section of jeep track, before another short climb to Dhumba Lake. A cliff side single track trail takes us to Tinigoan from where we drive to the Jomsom Tower and ride the trail here. The Jomsom Tower trail is super fun.  We then pedal along the river to Marpha  where we spend the night. Some of the trails today are certainly not for the faint of heart and have plenty of exposure.

5 hours
Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

From Marpha we cross the river on a suspension bridge and pedal up around 3km to Titi Lake, an awesome trail takes us back down to Kalopani with a smooth, twisting single track through the Pine Trees. From here we join the rugged Jeep track for a 1200m descent to Tatopani. For seriously good riders there is an extreme switchbacking stone staircase to ride instead. Tatopani is the Hot Springs, we can enjoy cold beer and hot springs.

3 hours
Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

A ride of around 22 km on an open jeep track, flat for the most part but a few up and down hills. The valley opens up near Beni and we cross the river for the last time, rejoining the main road.
