Mountain Biking in Everest offers Epic Enduro Trails in the Heart of the Sherpa Culture of Nepal.
Overview
This Epic Mountain Biking Trip serves up the best Enduro trails on offer in Nepal as well as a memorable insight into Sherpa Culture. Pikey Peak is a 4000-meter “hill” summit that commands stunning panoramic views of the Everest Range. We don’t call them mountains (Himal in Nepali) unless they have snow on them!
The area is Solukhumbhu and it lies about 180 km North-East of Kathmandu. While the trails do not go into the Himalayan Region amidst the snow peaks, they rove around the mid-hills and the range of hills just
below the main Everest Region, rolling from 2300m to 4200m through ancient Rhododendron and Fur Forests, Spruce covered hilltops and cultivated farmland. In Spring, the area comes alive with.
Rhododendron, Orchids, and Magnolia blooms. While the area is dominated by dense forest, small Sherpa and Rai Villages can be found as well as Monasteries and some cultivated land.
Riding in this area is best done in February through to May (Spring Season) and Late October through to Mid December (Autumn/Winter Season) In the Monsoon months the trails are too wet, slippery, and overgrown. It is also hard for vehicle access. Also, you might not get the Epic Views that you came for.
The Pikey Peak Trails are for those riders who love to hit the trail hard, while most people come to Nepal with the expectation of getting up close and personal in the high altitude regions of the Himalayas, we cannot deliver that on this trip, but we can deliver the best single tracks and ride on offer in Nepal. The trails are not mountain bike specific, this is certainly no bike park, which means they are natural and raw. Riders coming here should be fit and competent riders. Trails vary from steep, open rocky descents off grassy hilltops, down to rooty, slick jungle trails, stone stairs, and some super fun fast-flowing loamy sections. The combination of some tough pedaling up and carry sections, some shuttle support and enough views of the Snow Capped Himalaya makes this one of the best enduro bike trips in Nepal. Add to that the chance to get up close and personal with the local culture and hospitality and ride on trails that have been ridden by few tourists, well away from the heavily trodden trails of Annapurna and Mustang. Here you stay in simple teahouses owned and managed by local people, eat local food, and enjoy the warmth of the kitchen fire and conversations of people who seem to come from an era long passed.
Himalayan Single Track also offers amazing trekking experiences in the Everest base camp.
