Poonhill and Panchase

3 Days

This trip offers fantastic views of the Himalaya, authentic teahouses, culture and a super fun downhill cycling adventure. The riding is for the most part on jeep tracks and can be tackled by confident cyclists of all levels. The area is home to the Magar and Gurung ethnic groups and it is reflected in the style of architecture and farming that the rider will see along the way. The route touches on the famous poonhill trekking trail as well.

The Poonhill and Panchase tour covers two of the best places around Pokhara to witness the sunrise over the majesty Himalayan Peaks, Poonhill (3210m)and Panchase Dhada (2517m). The very best part of this trip is that you dont have to trudge down the endless stairs on foot, you can fly down on a bike.

Itinerary

Leaving Pokhara by jeep we drive to Ulleri. From Ulleri we hike uphill for 1 hour to reach the hilltop settlement of Ghorepani .  This traditional Gurung village is a great place to explore and hang out for the afternoon. We spend the night in an authentic teahouse.

Lunch, Dinner

In the morning we wake up early and hike the 40 mins to 1 hour to the summit of Poonhill. From here the views of the Himalaya are amazing! Head back to Ghorepani for breakfast and we then ride an almost 2000m descent, it starts a little technical but soon meets a little used jeep track and we roll downwards to Nayapul. During the springtime this area is dense with Rhododendrons, the national flower of Nepal.  Once we reach Nayapul we drive to Panchase.

Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Panchase is a lovely village situated at about 2100m above the end of the Pokhara Lake. The view of the himalaya are spectacular from here. We stay overnight in the village. The final day we have 1300m fun descents back to lakeside. We can stop on the way for some swimming.
